PROFILE OF HON. JUSTICE ASIVOSUO MACCARTHY ORIYE
Attended the Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Nkpolu, Port Harcourt now Rivers State University, Nkpolu, Port Harcourt, Rivers State between 1987-1991 and was awarded LL.B (Honours) in 1991. Attended the Nigeria Law School, Victoria Island, Lagos and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1992.
Served in the Niger State Ministry of Justice as a pupil state counsel during the National Youth Service Corps between 1992 and 1993. Engaged in legal practice in the Law Chambers of Charles Archibong & Co, 24/25 Macarthy Street, Onikan, Lagos between 1993 and 1996 as a barrister and solicitor.
Obtained a Masters Degree in Law, LL.M from the University of Lagos, Akoka, Lagos State in 1997.
Practiced law as an associate in the law firm of Frank Iloenyosi & Associates at No. 3 Azikiwe Road, Port Harcourt between 1997 to 1999.
Was employed by the Rivers State Government in 1999 as State Counsel in the Rivers State Ministry of Justice and rose through the ranks to become the Director/Head, Department of Appeals (Civil & Criminal litigations). Served in several departments of the Rivers State Ministry of Justice such as the Department of Civil Litigations, Public Prosecutions Department, the Administrator General’s Department and Department of Appeals (Civil & Criminal Litigations). Also worked at the same period, 2000 to 2023, first as the legal liaison officer to the Secretary to the State Government, Governor’s Office, Rivers State and later as the Director, Legal Services in same office. Served as member of various Commissions of inquiry set up by the Rivers State Government. Served in various committees of the Nigerian Bar Association, Port Harcourt Branch such as the Committee for Continuing Legal Education, Mediation Committee and the Disciplinary Committee amongst others.
Also participated and attended conferences/meetings as a member of the International Bar Association and the American Bar Association (International Section).
Married to Mr. Ivime Williams Oriye and blessed with Children.
Appointed as a Judge of the Rivers State High Court on the 6th of February, 2023.
