Brief Introduction
PROFILE OF THE HON. JUSTICE E. S. NYESOM-WIKE, DSSRS.
The Hon. Justice Eberechi Suzzette Nyesom-Wike was born into the Christian family of Dr. & Mrs. Ikechukwu Amadi Obuzor of Odiokwu Community in Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State, Nigeria. Her Ladyship studied Law at the Rivers State University of Science and Technology (now Rivers State University), Port Harcourt, Nigeria and obtained a Bachelor of Laws Degree (LL. B) (Hons) in December, 1996. She proceeded to the Nigerian Law School, Lagos in 1997 and was called to the Nigerian Bar on the 25th of February, 1998. She holds a Master’s Degree in Law (LL.M), from the University of Sussex, United Kingdom, being a recipient of the
2005/2006 session of the prestigious British Chevening Scholarship Award (UK).
Between 1998 to 2001, Her Ladyship was a Litigation Counsel with E. C. Ukala & Co (Efe Chambers) and was later appointed a Magistrate (Grade I) in the Rivers State Judiciary where she climbed through the rungs of varying grades and served for more than 10 years before her appointment as a Judge of the High Court of Rivers State on 14th February, 2012. In December 2022, the Rivers State Family Court was established and Her Ladyship, Hon. Justice Eberechi Suzzette Nyesom-Wike was appointed as the lead Judge of the Family Court Division of the Rivers State Judiciary.
To teach manners and courtesies, impart knowledge on sundry subjects and address the root cause of the prevalent social vices among residents but especially the youth in the State, Her Ladyship, Justice Eberechi Suzzette Nyesom-Wike through her pet project, RivEthics on Radio, increased public enlightenment and created the needed awareness to Rivers indigenes and beyond. RivEthics on Radio is a radio programme in which Her Ladyship, Justice Eberechi Suzzette Nyesom-Wike, together with other experts in various fields and on weekly basis, make broadcasts on 5 radio stations within Rivers State, to serve as a change agent for behavioral and attitudinal improvement within the family and the society at large.
Hon. Justice Eberechi Suzzette Nyesom-Wike sits both as a Judge of the High Court of the Rivers State Judiciary and the Rivers State Family Court Division. MiLady believes that, “a child-friendly justice system treats children with dignity, care and fairness”,, in keeping with the provisions of the Child’s Rights Law No, 6, 2022 of Rivers State that insists on the best interests of the child, being the paramount consideration in all instances. The Rivers State Family Court is built on the principle that the essence of a child-friendly justice system is to Re-orientate, Rehabilitate and Reintegrate into the society, any child offender; to preserve and protect the rights and dignity of children in all matters, whether civil or criminal.
Hon. Justice Nyesom-Wike is a member of the International Bar Association (IBA), International Federation of Women Lawyers (including the National and Rivers State Chapters) (FIDA), International and National Associations of Women Judges (IAWJ) and (NAWJN). MiLady is also an Associate Member of the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators (ICMC) and an Associate member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (ACIArb). She was once a member of the Magistrates’ Association of Nigeria (MAN) Rivers State Branch and a one-time Public Relations Officer of the Association.
Her Ladyship enjoys cooking, reading, listening to classic and contemporary music, traveling and keeps fit through swimming and playing lawn tennis. She is the wife of the immediate past Governor of Rivers State, Chief Ezenwo Nyesom Wike CON., Life Bencher, GSSRS who served from the 29th May 2015 to 29th May 2023 and currently the serving Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Nigeria. Together, they are blessed with 3 beautiful and adorable children that have all attained the age of maturity.
